The Anaheim Ducks defeated the Edmonton Oilers 7-4 in Game 3 of the Western Conference First Round at Honda Center on April 25. Beckett Sennecke and Leo Carlsson scored just 42 seconds apart early in the third period, helping Anaheim pull away with a four-goal final frame.
This win gives the Ducks a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, marking their first home playoff victory in eight years. The result sets up an important Game 4 at Honda Center on Sunday night.
Mikael Granlund contributed a goal and three assists for Anaheim, while Carlsson and Jackson LaCombe each had a goal and an assist. Goaltender Lukas Dostal made 20 saves for the Ducks. For Edmonton, Connor McDavid recorded a goal and an assist, Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard each added two assists, and Connor Ingram stopped 32 shots.
The game was tied entering the third period before Sennecke put Anaheim ahead with a shot from the left circle at just under three minutes into the period. Moments later, Carlsson extended the lead by finishing off a rush with Troy Terry. McDavid responded for Edmonton with his team’s first power-play goal of the series to cut it to one, but Jeffrey Viel restored Anaheim’s two-goal cushion late in regulation before LaCombe sealed it with an empty-netter.
Earlier goals came from Vasily Podkolzin for Edmonton after an Anaheim turnover, while Mason McTavish tied it up later in the first period by tipping Drew Helleson’s shot past Ingram. Granlund then gave Anaheim its first lead with a power-play goal late in that frame. Kasperi Kapanen tied things again early in the second period for Edmonton before Ryan Nugent-Hopkins put them ahead briefly until Alex Killorn equalized midway through regulation.
Game 4 is scheduled to take place Sunday evening as both teams look to gain momentum heading deeper into their playoff matchup.
