Anaheim officials announced on April 21 that the city’s annual State of the City event will take place on Wednesday, April 29, at the Grove of Anaheim. The event will feature Mayor Ashleigh Aitken and several community guests in a celebration reflecting both Anaheim’s history and America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
The State of the City is significant as it brings together residents, local leaders, and special guests to highlight Anaheim’s growth, achievements, and plans for the future. This year’s gathering aims to foster civic pride while raising funds for community programs.
Mayor Ashleigh Aitken will deliver an address with storytelling about Anaheim’s past and present. Ally Kay, in-arena host for the Anaheim Ducks, will serve as emcee and share her personal journey with attendees. Tim Kepler from Honda Center is scheduled to perform “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Author Charles Phoenix will provide a presentation featuring retro images of Disneyland and other landmarks. Jill Estornio, recently named president of Disneyland Resort in March, is set to introduce herself to residents and discuss upcoming park attractions this summer.
The fundraiser supports the Anaheim Community Foundation which assists youth, families, seniors, and others across the city. Organizers expect this year’s event to raise more than $50,000 for these efforts. About 45 residents—including students and nonprofit representatives—will attend as special guests at community tables near the stage.
Anaheim is home to professional teams such as the Angels baseball team—winners of the 2002 Major League Baseball World Series—according to the official website. The city has become a prominent family vacation spot known for attractions like Disneyland Resort as well as its sports teams; millions visit annually contributing to local growth according to its official history page. Key facilities operated by Anaheim include Angel Stadium—a venue for major sports events—and over one million square feet at its convention center as reported by city officials.
According to the official website, Anaheim uses a City Council/City Manager form of government designed around serving both residents’ interests and business needs. The city’s name combines ‘Ana’ from Santa Ana River with ‘heim,’ meaning home in German—a nod to its origins among German pioneers as described by its official history page. Its location in Orange County positions it as a gateway for tourism with transportation hubs like ARTIC connecting visitors regionally according to city information.
This year’s State of the City reflects ongoing efforts by local leaders not only to celebrate civic milestones but also support organizations that benefit those living in Anaheim.
