Leo Carlsson played a key role in the Anaheim Ducks’ 5-4 shootout victory over the Los Angeles Kings at Honda Center on Friday. Carlsson scored the tying goal with 1:31 left in regulation and provided two assists during the game.
The Ducks were trailing by two goals but managed to rally for the fourth time this season to secure a win. With goaltender Ville Husso pulled for an extra attacker, Carlsson tied the score at 4-4 after receiving a pass from Jackson LaCombe. Earlier in the third period, Pavel Mintyukov had reduced the deficit to one goal with a shot from the right hash marks.
Ville Husso made his season debut for Anaheim, stopping 23 shots and saving both shootout attempts. Chris Kreider also contributed a goal for Anaheim, while Mason McTavish recorded two assists. In the shootout, Troy Terry and Mason McTavish scored for the Ducks.
For Los Angeles, Alex Laferriere and Kevin Fiala each found the net, with Darcy Kuemper making 27 saves. The Kings have now earned points in eight of their last nine games. Brian Dumoulin, Trevor Moore, and Brandt Clarke each tallied two assists.
Laferriere opened scoring late in the first period by pushing a rebound past Husso. Kreider responded with a power-play goal early in the second period after redirecting a pass from Terry. Fiala put Los Angeles ahead again midway through the second before Olen Zellweger quickly tied it for Anaheim less than a minute later.
In the third period, Alex Turcotte redirected Clarke’s centering pass to give Los Angeles another lead—his first goal of the season after being scratched from Monday’s lineup against Ottawa. Joel Edmundson extended that lead before Mintyukov and Carlsson brought Anaheim back into contention.
The Ducks improved their record to 15-8-1 with this win, while Los Angeles fell to 11-6-7 on the season.
