Macklin Celebrini recorded four points and Alexander Wennberg scored the game-winning goal with 31 seconds left in the third period as the San Jose Sharks defeated the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 at SAP Center on Wednesday.
The result marked a comeback for the Sharks, who have now won three consecutive games. The win was secured after Celebrini tied the game late in the third period before assisting on Wennberg’s decisive goal.
Celebrini finished with two goals and two assists. He tied the score at 3-3 at 18:21 of the third, taking a pass at the top of the left face-off circle and scoring over Anaheim goaltender Lukas Dostal’s glove. Moments later, Celebrini found Wennberg in the high slot, whose wrist shot beat Dostal to put San Jose ahead for good with just seconds remaining.
Will Smith contributed one goal and two assists for San Jose (35-31-7), while Yaroslav Askarov made 28 saves. For Anaheim (41-29-5), Alex Killorn, Troy Terry, and Ryan Poehling each scored goals. Drew Helleson had two assists, and Dostal stopped 16 shots.
Smith opened scoring for San Jose with a power play goal early in the first period following an assist from Celebrini. Poehling equalized for Anaheim later in that frame after maneuvering past defenders into position to score over Askarov’s blocker.
Killorn gave Anaheim a brief lead midway through the second period off a pass from Helleson before Celebrini tied it again early in the third on another assist from Smith. Terry then restored Anaheim’s advantage by capitalizing on a turnover but could not prevent San Jose’s late rally.
