The Anaheim Ducks will begin a four-game road trip with a match against the Washington Capitals on Monday. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on Victory+ and KCOP-13.
Anaheim is looking to end a five-game losing streak after falling 5-2 to the Minnesota Wild in their most recent outing. Beckett Sennecke and Troy Terry scored the two goals for the Ducks in that game.
“Tonight wasn’t very good,” head coach Joel Quenneville said. “Our beginning was good. They score, we kinda lose our way, we give up a couple there. Then it looked like we were starting to trend back in the game. Our start of the second period wasn’t very good, but I didn’t mind our first period, and then the third, they had the puck a lot more than us.”
Sennecke’s goal marked his 13th of the season, setting a new record for goals by a teenage player in Ducks franchise history and leading all NHL rookies this season.
Despite recent losses, Troy Terry expressed confidence in the team’s ability to recover as they progress through the long NHL season. “Just mentally realizing that those slumps are going to happen, you try to limit the slumps, and just realizing not to ride the high of scoring three games in a row, if you haven’t scored in ten games, things are going to turn back around,” Terry said. “Trying to stay even keel, keep confidence up, because it’s a long season and it goes up and down.”
The Ducks currently hold third place in the Pacific Division standings, trailing Vegas and Edmonton by one point.
Radko Gudas recently returned from injury and emphasized his optimism for this stage of the season. “Today’s a big day for us,” he said. “We want to start the second half on a good note and we’re ready to get the two points here.”
Washington has also struggled recently with two consecutive losses; Tom Wilson leads their team with 42 points but will miss tonight’s game due to an injury sustained against Chicago.
This matchup marks their second regular-season meeting; Anaheim won their previous encounter against Washington in a shootout last month.
