The Anaheim Ducks will host the Chicago Blackhawks at Honda Center on Sunday for the final game of their three-game homestand. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast on Victory+ and KCOP-13.
Anaheim recently secured its tenth comeback victory of the season, ranking second among all NHL teams, after a 4-3 shootout win against the Washington Capitals. This win ended Washington’s six-game winning streak.
Head coach Joel Quenneville commented on the team’s performance following Friday’s match: “Some great action in overtime, some thrilling shootout moves as well,” Quenneville said. “We saw a lot of good things tonight. The crowd was great. It was a good bounce-back game from the other night.”
Ducks players Beckett Sennecke, Ross Johnston, and Cutter Gauthier scored during regulation time, with Troy Terry and Mason McTavish converting in the shootout. Reflecting on his contribution to tying the game at 2-2, Johnston stated: “We responded the right way,” he said. “We didn’t fold up and we didn’t feel bad for ourselves because of what happened the other night.”
The Blackhawks are finishing up a four-game road trip with a current record of 1-1-1 after losing 6-0 to the Los Angeles Kings in their previous outing. Defenseman Connor Murphy addressed that defeat: “We outplayed them in the first period and a bit, and then it went completely opposite,” Murphy said. “[It’s] unfortunate that we let it get to that point. When momentum goes the other way, you want to try to turn it quicker so it doesn’t end up being a game like that.”
Chicago forward Connor Bedard leads his team with 39 points this season, including 18 goals and 21 assists. Tyler Bertuzzi has also contributed significantly with 24 points.
This will be the second meeting between Anaheim and Chicago within one week; last Sunday, Anaheim lost to Chicago after giving up a three-goal lead for a final score of 5-3. In their two matchups so far this season, Chicago holds a 2-0 advantage over Anaheim.
