The Anaheim Ducks have completed a trade with the Boston Bruins, acquiring left wing Jeffrey Viel in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round draft pick. As part of the agreement, Boston will receive whichever is the higher selection between Detroit’s and Philadelphia’s 2026 fourth-round picks.
Jeffrey Viel, 28, played in 10 games for Boston during the current season and accumulated 20 penalty minutes. Over his NHL career, which includes time with both Boston (2024-26) and San Jose (2020-23), Viel has tallied five points (three goals, two assists) and 183 penalty minutes across 64 games. Last season, he split his time between the NHL and AHL, playing five games for Boston and posting 37 points with a +14 rating and 148 penalty minutes in 68 games for the Providence Bruins.
Viel hails from Rimouski, Quebec. In his American Hockey League career, he has notched 170 points and amassed 688 penalty minutes over 349 games with Providence, Manitoba, and San Jose. His best AHL season came in 2023-24 when he scored a career-high 40 points in 69 games for Manitoba.
Before turning professional, Viel played junior hockey in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), recording nearly 200 points over four seasons with Sherbrooke and Acadia-Bathurst. He won the QMJHL Championship with Acadia-Bathurst in 2018 after leading all playoff scorers with 23 points in 20 games to earn Playoffs MVP honors. That same year, he helped secure the CHL Memorial Cup title for his team and was named to the Memorial Cup All-Star team.
