Anaheim Ducks secured a 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Monday. Cutter Gauthier led the Ducks with two goals in the third period, and Lukas Dostal contributed 26 saves.
Jackson LaCombe added a short-handed goal for Anaheim, assisted by Jacob Trouba. This was Trouba’s first appearance at The Garden since being traded from the Rangers to the Ducks on December 6, 2024. Chris Kreider, also recently acquired by Anaheim after spending his first 13 NHL seasons with the Rangers, faced his former team for the first time since his trade on June 12.
The win improved Anaheim’s record to 20-12-1 and ended their two-game losing streak. The Rangers fell to 16-14-4 and have now lost four of their last five games. Their home struggles continued as they dropped to a 4-9-3 record at Madison Square Garden and were held to one goal or less for the ninth time in sixteen home games.
Gauthier scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at 5:51 of the third period during a power play. Beckett Sennecke advanced into the offensive zone past J.T. Miller and set up Gauthier, who shot past Igor Shesterkin from above the left hash marks.
Gauthier later added an empty-net goal at 19:38 before Pavel Mintyukov capped off scoring at 19:57. LaCombe’s short-handed tally came early in the second period after New York failed to convert on a brief two-man advantage.
Matthew Robertson scored for New York at 16:18 of the second period following a video review that confirmed Dostal had inadvertently knocked the puck into his own net.
The game marked notable returns for both Trouba and Kreider against their former club but ended with Anaheim extending its strong season performance while New York continues searching for answers on home ice.
