Mikael Granlund scored with 57.4 seconds left in overtime to secure a 2-1 victory for the Anaheim Ducks over the Los Angeles Kings at Honda Center on Saturday.
Granlund’s goal, his ninth of the season, came from a wrist shot in the left circle after he chose to keep the puck during a 2-on-1 rush. Beckett Sennecke assisted on the play by stopping Kevin Fiala from getting a shot off on a breakaway just moments before Granlund’s game-winner.
Mason McTavish also scored for Anaheim, and Ville Husso made 17 saves. The Ducks (24-21-3) have now won three consecutive games following a nine-game losing streak. On Friday, they defeated the Kings 3-2 in a shootout in Los Angeles.
Adrian Kempe scored on the power play for Los Angeles, while Anton Forsberg recorded 30 saves. The Kings (19-16-13) have struggled recently, posting only one win in their last seven games.
Anaheim took an early lead at 6:11 of the first period when McTavish converted Olen Zellweger’s pass into a wrist shot goal following a turnover in neutral ice.
Kempe tied it up at 5:39 of the second period during a two-man advantage for Los Angeles. His wrist shot from the right circle was his 16th goal this season and ended his six-game goalless streak.
The Kings finished one-for-six on power plays—five of those chances coming in the second period—while Anaheim went zero-for-three with the man advantage.
