Dylan Holloway scored two power-play goals for the St. Louis Blues in a 6-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Friday, April 4. The win ended a two-game losing streak for the Blues and brought them within three points of the second wild card spot in the Western Conference for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The game was significant as it tightened the playoff race, with St. Louis (32-31-12) gaining momentum after recent losses. Robert Thomas contributed one goal and two assists, while Pius Suter and Colton Parayko each added a goal and an assist. Jake Neighbours and Philip Broberg both had two assists, helping Joel Hofer secure the win with 24 saves.
For Anaheim (41-30-5), Ryan Poehling had a goal and an assist, Jeffrey Viel also scored, and Lukas Dostal made 23 saves. Despite Poehling giving Anaheim an early lead by tipping in Mason McTavish’s shot just under two minutes into play, St. Louis quickly responded when Thomas tied it up at 1-1 following a pass from Broberg.
Holloway put St. Louis ahead with his first power-play goal midway through the opening period before Viel tied it again off a feed from Poehling. A miscommunication between Anaheim’s Leo Carlsson and Ian Moore led to Jonatan Berggren scoring for St. Louis late in the first period, giving them a lead they would not relinquish.
In the second period, Suter extended that lead after capitalizing on a rebound opportunity set up by Neighbours and Tucker. Parayko added another late in that frame before Holloway closed out scoring early in the third period with his second power-play tally off a pass from Thomas.
The result leaves Anaheim searching for answers after their fourth straight loss while keeping St. Louis firmly in contention as teams battle for playoff spots.
