Mikael Granlund has been named to Finland’s national ice hockey team for the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina 2026. This marks Granlund’s second appearance at the Olympics, having previously helped Finland secure a bronze medal at the 2014 Sochi Games, where he was also selected for the tournament All-Star Team.
Granlund will join several other Anaheim Ducks players representing their countries at the February event. These include Leo Carlsson (Sweden), Lukas Dostal and Radko Gudas (Czechia), and goaltender prospect Damian Clara (Italy).
At 33 years old, Granlund will make his 17th international appearance for Finland. He has already earned six medals across various tournaments. Most recently, he represented Finland at the 2025 NHL 4 Nations Face-Off, leading his country in both points and goals during three games.
His extensive international career includes participation in one previous Olympic Winter Games, the 2025 NHL 4 Nations Face-Off, the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, eight World Championships spanning from 2011 to 2024, three World Junior Championships from 2010 to 2012, two U-18 World Championships in 2009 and 2010, as well as the U-17 World Hockey Challenge in 2008.
Granlund has served as captain for Finland’s teams at both the World Championships (2018 and 2024) and the World Junior Championship in 2012. He contributed to Finland’s gold medal victories at the World Championships in both 2011 and 2022. Additionally, he helped secure silver at the World Championship in 2016 and back-to-back bronze medals at U-18 events in consecutive years.
During his NHL career with multiple teams—including Anaheim since signing a three-year contract on July 1, 2025—Granlund has accumulated a total of 625 points over 924 games. His point tally places him fourth among active Finnish players currently competing in the league; he is also ranked third among active Finnish players for assists. Among all-time Finnish NHL players, Granlund is eleventh in points and ninth in assists.
This season with Anaheim, Granlund has scored seven goals and eight assists over twenty-two games. In playoff action throughout his career—spanning seventy-seven contests—he has recorded sixteen goals and twenty-six assists while helping Dallas reach last year’s Western Conference Final.
The Milano Cortina Olympics are scheduled from February 11 through February 22. Twelve teams will compete across preliminary group stages before moving into single-elimination rounds leading up to quarterfinals. The gold medal game is set for Sunday, February 22.
