Reps. Young Kim and Andrew Garbarino, co-chairs of the SALT Caucus, have expressed their concerns regarding the Senate Finance Committee’s decision to maintain a $10,000 cap on state and local tax (SALT) deductions in its version of the reconciliation bill.
In a joint statement, Reps. Kim and Garbarino emphasized the importance of preserving the negotiated SALT deal with both the Speaker and the White House. They stated, “We have been crystal clear that the SALT deal we negotiated in good faith with the Speaker and the White House must remain in the final bill.” The representatives highlighted that this agreement supports President Trump’s promise to increase the SALT cap and has received positive feedback from various groups including middle-class families, firefighters, law enforcement officers, small business owners, and other hardworking Americans.
Kim and Garbarino urged cooperation from the Senate to uphold their commitment to providing significant tax relief as part of their Republican agenda. They cautioned against any actions that might jeopardize the existing agreement or risk derailing the entire bill.
