Jack Quinn scored two goals to help the Buffalo Sabres defeat the Anaheim Ducks 5-3 at KeyBank Center on Saturday. The win marks the Sabres’ third consecutive victory and their 13th in their last 14 games, a first in team history.
For Buffalo (24-15-4), Tage Thompson contributed a goal and an assist, Peyton Krebs added two assists, and goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 31 saves.
On the Ducks’ side (21-21-3), Leo Carlsson had a goal and an assist, while Lukas Dostal stopped 27 shots. The loss extended Anaheim’s losing streak to nine games (0-8-1).
Quinn opened scoring early in the first period after receiving a pass from Ryan McLeod during a two-on-one rush, placing his shot over Dostal’s glove. Later in the period, Krebs set up Thompson for Buffalo’s second goal by finding him alone near the net.
Bowen Byram increased Buffalo’s lead to 3-0 early in the third period with a shot off the right post following a pass from Thompson behind the net.
Anaheim responded when Zellweger finished a play initiated by Jackson LaCombe, sliding a backhand through Luukkonen’s pads midway through the third period. Less than a minute later, Quinn scored again from above the right circle to restore Buffalo’s three-goal advantage.
Carlsson brought Anaheim closer with his wrist shot deflecting off Rasmus Dahlin’s stick late in regulation. With Dostal pulled for an extra attacker, McTavish scored to cut Buffalo’s lead to one. However, Josh Norris sealed the win for Buffalo with an empty-net goal just before time expired.
After this game, Anaheim continues searching for ways to end its current skid as it approaches its next matchup.
