JJ Peterka scored two goals and contributed two assists, leading the Utah Mammoth to a 7-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Wednesday. Karel Vejmelka made 27 saves for Utah, earning his first shutout of the season and the seventh of his NHL career.
Utah’s win broke a four-game losing streak. Clayton Keller added a goal and two assists, while Ian Cole and Dylan Guenther each had a goal and an assist for the Mammoth. Nick Schmaltz and Jack McBain also provided two assists apiece.
Ville Husso started in goal for Anaheim, allowing four goals on 21 shots before being replaced by Vyacheslav Buteyets, who stopped 10 of 13 shots in his NHL debut. The Ducks have alternated wins and losses in their last eight games.
Lawson Crouse opened the scoring for Utah early in the first period with his third goal in two games. Dylan Guenther doubled Utah’s lead after taking control of a loose puck and finishing on a breakaway.
Ian Cole made it 3-0 early in the second period with a wrist shot from the left circle. Mason McTavish appeared to score for Anaheim later in the period, but after review, officials overturned the goal due to offside following a successful challenge by Utah.
Peterka scored again late in the second period off a cross-ice pass from Schmaltz to increase Utah’s lead to four goals. In the third period, Liam O’Brien added another when his shot deflected off an Anaheim defenseman. Peterka finished a three-on-one breakaway during a power play to make it 6-0, and Keller capped off scoring for Utah at just under seven minutes remaining.
