The Minnesota Wild extended their point streak to five games with a 5-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Friday. Quinn Hughes, who joined the Wild in December after a trade from the Vancouver Canucks, matched his NHL career high by recording four assists in the game.
Since joining Minnesota, Hughes has registered 11 points in 10 games. Danila Yurov scored twice for the Wild, while Yakov Trenin contributed a goal and an assist. Joel Eriksson Ek also provided two assists. The Wild have now gone 3-0-2 in their last five games and are 10-1-2 over their previous 13 outings.
Filip Gustavsson stopped 26 shots for Minnesota after being named earlier in the day to Team Sweden’s roster for the upcoming Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.
For Anaheim, Beckett Sennecke and Troy Terry each found the net, while Lukas Dostal made 29 saves. The Ducks have now lost five straight games.
Minnesota took an early lead with a power-play goal just ten seconds into their man advantage in the first period. Hughes’ shot from above the right circle was redirected by Eriksson Ek before Kirill Kaprizov finished it off at close range.
Dostal helped kill two penalties on Sennecke early in the second period, but Yurov extended Minnesota’s lead midway through that frame. Sennecke responded with his team-leading thirteenth goal among NHL rookies to cut Minnesota’s lead to one before Trenin restored the two-goal cushion less than a minute later off another setup from Hughes.
Yurov added his second goal of the night early in the third period by tipping in another shot from Hughes. Nico Sturm increased Minnesota’s advantage further before Terry closed out scoring late for Anaheim following a face-off win.
Minnesota remains among Western Conference leaders as they continue their strong run of form this season, while Anaheim looks to rebound from its current losing streak.
