Young Kim, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district since 2021, addressed issues related to critical minerals and support for senior citizens in a series of posts on August 21, 2025.
In her first post of the day, Kim warned about China’s influence over key supply chains. On August 21, she stated: “The CCP cannot hold the keys to America’s most vital technologies & defense systems. I spoke with U.S. companies about how China is tightening its chokehold on critical minerals & why we must secure our supply chains before Xi Jinping turns the lock.”
Later that afternoon, Kim marked Senior Citizens Day by reaffirming her commitment to supporting older Americans. She posted: “On Senior Citizens Day, we honor the generations who built our communities, guided our families, & continue to enrich our lives. I’ll keep working in Congress to protect & strengthen key programs our seniors rely on, so our parents & grandparents receive the care & dignity they” (August 21).
In another post that evening after visiting a major mining site in California, Kim highlighted domestic efforts in mineral production: “The fight for critical minerals starts right here in Southern California. I visited the Mountain Pass Rare Earth Mine to see firsthand how CA is leading in critical minerals production & strengthening national security—so America, not the CCP, controls our energy future.” (August 21).
Young Kim has represented California’s 40th District since replacing Gil Cisneros in Congress in 2021 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and currently residing in La Habra at age 60, she holds a BBA from the University of Southern California.
