Young Kim, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district, marked National Financial Awareness Day and the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese occupation in a series of posts on August 15, 2025. She also highlighted her ongoing work with local organizations to support economic mobility and community development in California.
In her first post on August 15, Kim addressed financial literacy among Americans: “On average, U.S. adults can only answer half of basic personal finance questions correctly. This #NationalFinancialAwarenessDay, I’m committed to making financial awareness a top priority & financial literacy accessible to all across our communities.”
Later that day, she commemorated an important historical milestone for Korea: “Today, we commemorate 80 years since Korea’s liberation from Japanese occupation ‘Restoration of Light Day’ reminds us that freedom is a beacon of light that must be protected. I honor those who fought for freedom & stand with those beyond the DMZ who still await the dawn.”
In her final post on August 15, Kim described recent meetings with community partners: “I enjoyed meeting with @cdfi to discuss their vital work expanding Port View Preparatory in Tustin & creating safe housing for at-risk teens in Trabuco Canyon. I’ll keep working to support projects that fuel economic mobility & strengthen communities across California.”
Kim has represented California’s 40th District in Congress since 2021 after replacing Gil Cisneros and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and currently residing in La Habra, Kim graduated from the University of Southern California with a BBA in 1985.
