U.S. Representative Young Kim, who serves California’s 40th district, posted a series of statements on her social media accounts in early October 2025 addressing the ongoing government shutdown and commemorating the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel.

On October 6, 2025, Kim addressed the impact of the federal government shutdown on military personnel and congressional pay. She stated, “Our servicemembers shouldn’t have to wait for their paychecks because Washington can’t do its job. I’ve requested my pay be withheld until our government is back open & our troops are promptly paid. I ask my Democratic colleagues to do the same—& end this shutdown!”

Later that day, Kim commented on the financial consequences of the shutdown, writing on October 6: “The Schumer Shutdown is costing taxpayers $400 million each DAY. We cannot allow Washington’s dysfunction to keep running up the check on everyday Americans. I voted to keep our government open & will keep fighting to end this reckless shutdown.”

On October 7, she marked two years since a major attack by Hamas against Israel, posting: “Two years ago, Hamas carried out the worst massacre of Jewish people the world has witnessed since the Holocaust, slaughtering 1,200 innocent people & kidnapping 251 others. We will never forget the images of barbarism by Hamas or the acts of courage & selflessness by ordinary”

Kim has represented California’s 40th District in Congress since 2021 after defeating Gil Cisneros and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and currently residing in La Habra, she graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1985.
