Young Kim, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district, addressed local community engagement and the ongoing government shutdown in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) between October 18 and 19, 2025.
On October 18, Kim shared her participation in a local event: “It was an honor to join Love Mission Viejo for Love Our Schools Day. We are truly blessed to have so many amazing schools in our community, & inspiring to see our community come together to serve!”
Later that day, she commented on federal policy regarding military pay during the government shutdown: “I am grateful the administration moved to pay our troops. No one should put their life on the line for our nation without a paycheck. This uncertainty can’t go on any longer. It’s time for Senate Democrats to do their job and open the government for the American people.”
On October 19, Kim continued addressing the impact of the shutdown: “Senate Democrats are stretching their government shutdown into a third week and Americans are feeling the pain. Federal programs face uncertainty Our troops and federal law enforcement are working without pay Hardworking Americans are missing paychecks Our economy”
Kim has represented California’s 40th district since replacing Gil Cisneros in 2021 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962, she currently resides in La Habra and graduated from the University of Southern California with a BBA in 1985.
