Young Kim, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district since 2021, has recently posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account addressing issues ranging from state leadership and public safety to international human rights.
On January 8, 2026, Kim criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom regarding federal funding losses: “Gavin Newsom’s recklessness cost California $160 MILLION in federal funding. I’ve been fighting to hold him accountable & ensure that only vetted, law-abiding drivers are behind the wheel of 80,000 pound trucks. California needs a leader who puts Californian’s safety first.”
Later that same day, Kim expressed support for protesters in Iran: “After enduring decades of oppression under the Iranian regime, the people are speaking loud and clear in the streets. What began as cries against economic hardship has become a powerful demand for freedom from the regime. The world hears you. America stands with you.”
On January 9, 2026, Kim commented on recent legislative developments in Congress: “The House just passed a government funding package that will back the blue & put public safety first. I fought to secure key funding in the bill to equip law enforcement to better fight crime & protect our communities across Southern California.”
Kim has served in Congress since replacing Gil Cisneros in 2021 and previously held office in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and currently resides in La Habra. Kim graduated from the University of Southern California with a BBA in 1985.
