Young Kim, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 40th district, has recently shared several updates via social media regarding issues related to student aid fraud and her activities in Washington, D.C.
On June 9, 2025, Young Kim addressed a significant issue of fraudulent activity concerning student aid. She reported that scammers had illicitly acquired $10 million in federal student aid and $3 million in state student aid through fake community college applications in California last year alone. In her post, she emphasized the impact of this fraud on taxpayer dollars and students who genuinely need financial assistance. She expressed gratitude towards the U.S. Department of Education for their efforts to combat this problem “Scammers stole $10 million in federal student aid & $3 million in state student aid through fake community college applications in California last year alone. This fraud wastes taxpayer dollars & deprives students in need of aid.”
In another post made on the same day, Young Kim highlighted her proactive measures taken earlier to address this issue. She mentioned leading a letter sent out in April to raise awareness about the situation and reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring effective use of taxpayer money “I led a letter in April sounding the alarm on this issue & will keep fighting to ensure your taxpayer dollars are spent as effectively as possible.”
Later that day, Young Kim shared a lighter moment from Capitol Hill by hosting constituents from Yorba Linda at her office. She welcomed the Bohling family during their visit to Washington, D.C., showcasing an aspect of her engagement with those she represents “We enjoyed showing the Bohlings from Yorba Linda around the U.S. Capitol.”
Young Kim has been serving California’s 40th district since replacing Gil Cisneros in 2021. Before her current role, she was part of the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea, she is now based in La Habra and holds a Bachelor’s degree from USC.
