U.S. Congresswoman Young Kim, who represents California’s 40th district, recently used her social media platform to address several issues ranging from upcoming international sporting events in Southern California to the ongoing separation of Korean American families and support for military academy aspirants.
On August 22, 2025, Kim commented on the region’s preparation for major global sports events, stating: “FIFA 2026 and the LA28 Olympics will put Southern California on display for millions of visitors & billions of viewers around the world. Failure to meet the moment is not an option. The focus should be on our amazing athletes, not visa backlogs.”
Later that day, she highlighted the issue of family separation among Korean Americans due to geopolitical tensions with North Korea. In a tweet posted at 21:04 UTC, Kim wrote: “More than 70 years after the Korean War, 100,000 Korean Americans remain separated from loved ones across the DMZ. I joined @RepGraceMeng & @maziehirono in a bipartisan letter urging the reunification of divided families. As a Korean American with family who defected from North”
Kim also expressed gratitude toward participants in a recent community event aimed at prospective military academy students. At 22:31 UTC on August 22, she stated: “Thank you to all the students, families, & military academy representatives who joined our Service Academy Info Session at the Nixon Library! I’m honored to be able to nominate the best & brightest in our community to serve in our nation’s uniform & defend our freedoms we hold”
Young Kim has served as a member of Congress since replacing Gil Cisneros in 2021 and previously held office in the California State Assembly between 2014 and 2016. She was born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and currently resides in La Habra. Kim earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Southern California in 1985.
