Young Kim, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district, addressed her constituents and the broader public in a series of social media posts on October 2 and 3, 2025, discussing both religious observances and ongoing government shutdown negotiations.
On October 2, Kim extended greetings to those observing Yom Kippur: “Wishing a blessed & peaceful Yom Kippur to all who observe in our community & around the world.”
Later that day, she commented on the government shutdown affecting federal operations: “I’m fighting to end the political games & reopen our government for the American people. Until then, I’m committed to keeping our community informed & making sure you have the resources you need to navigate this shutdown. https://t.co/37QukaoFFn” (October 2).
In another post dated October 3, Kim criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s role in the negotiations: “Chuck Schumer is holding our government hostage. I voted to keep the government open & running for the American people. I urge democrats to stop with the Washington political games & keep our country moving forward. America deserves better.”
Young Kim has represented California’s 40th district in Congress since replacing Gil Cisneros in 2021 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and now residing in La Habra, Kim graduated from the University of Southern California with a BBA in 1985.
