Young Kim, a U.S. Congress member representing California’s 40th district, has been actively engaging with legislative and community matters as reflected in her recent social media posts.
On June 3, 2025, Young Kim announced her leadership role in the Reviewing Economic and Protection Objectives for the Reciprocal Tariffs (REPORT) Act. She emphasized the importance of transparency for workers and small businesses, stating “ICYMI: I’m leading the Reviewing Economic and Protection Objectives for the Reciprocal Tariffs (REPORT) Act to ensure Congress has a heads up on a change in tariff policy. Providing transparency for workers & small businesses must be a top priority.”
Later that day, she expressed her honor at joining the Hudson Institute to celebrate Rushan Abbas’s book launch. The event highlighted human rights issues concerning Uyghurs in Xinjiang. Kim remarked “Honored to join @HudsonInstitute to celebrate the launch of Unbroken: One Uyghur’s Fight for Freedom by @RushanAbbas, whose advocacy has been so important to shine light on the human rights atrocities facing Uyghurs in Xinjiang.”
In another post from June 3, 2025, Kim shared her experience welcoming constituents from Laguna Woods to Washington D.C., offering Capitol tours to visitors from California’s 40th district. She noted “Team Young enjoyed welcoming Lisa and Mark from Laguna Woods to DC for a Capitol tour! Visiting DC from CA-40? Reach out to my office here.”
Young Kim was born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and moved into politics after graduating with a BBA from the University of Southern California in 1985. Her career includes serving in both state and national legislatures since first being elected to represent California’s 40th district in Congress after replacing Gil Cisneros in 2021.
