Young Kim, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district, announced on September 2 and 3, 2025, that the House of Representatives passed two bills she authored: the ARMOR Act and the Uyghur Policy Act.
On September 2, Kim posted, “NEW: The House just passed my ARMOR Act to strengthen AUKUS & help promote peace through strength. Proud to help reaffirm that America is serious about a free & open Indo-Pacific.” She provided a link for further information regarding the legislation.
Continuing her advocacy for the bill, Kim wrote on September 3, “We cannot allow bureaucratic backlogs to weaken our partnerships & threaten our national security. I urged my colleagues to vote in favor of my ARMOR Act to ensure the AUKUS agreement can work as intended to counter 21st century threats in the Indo-Pacific.”
Later that day, Kim addressed human rights issues related to China’s treatment of Uyghurs. She stated on September 3, “For too long, the Chinese Communist Party has gotten away with the forced sterilization, enslavement, & murder of Uyghur people. The House just passed my Uyghur Policy Act to #StopUyghurGenocide & hold the CCP accountable for its egregious human rights violations.”
Kim has served in Congress since replacing Gil Cisneros in 2021 and previously represented constituents in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and currently residing in La Habra at age 60, she earned her BBA from the University of Southern California in 1985.
