Young Kim, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district, used her social media platform in early October 2025 to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on Americans. In a series of posts, Kim criticized the fiscal consequences of the shutdown and called for bipartisan action to reopen the government.
On October 4, 2025, Kim wrote: “$11 billion. That’s how much our economy lost in the last major shutdown.
This shutdown is not only reckless, it’s fiscally irresponsible & hurts the American people. We must get the government back up & running as swiftly as possible.”
The following day, she addressed the effects of the shutdown on local families: “Washington’s shutdown is hitting kitchen tables right here in Southern California.
This isn’t the time to push agendas. It’s time to help hardworking Americans put food on the table.
I urge Senate Democrats to stop with the games & open our government.” (October 5, 2025)
On October 6, Kim quoted former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher while reiterating her commitment to her constituents: “‘You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it.’ — Margaret Thatcher
Washington gridlock won’t wear me down. I’ll keep standing up for hardworking families in our community until the job is done.”
Kim has represented California’s 40th district since replacing Gil Cisneros in 2021 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and currently residing in La Habra, Kim graduated from the University of Southern California with a BBA in 1985.
