Young Kim, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district, posted a series of statements on social media between January 7 and January 8, 2026, addressing government transparency, veterans’ affairs in Orange County, and U.S. operations targeting Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
On January 7, Kim criticized the editing of official reports to obscure failures: “When reports are edited to “soften” failures, the public loses trust—& lives are put at risk. This is a betrayal that protects politicians, not people. I’ll keep pushing for transparency, accountability, & commonsense solutions that save lives in California.”
Later that day, she highlighted her meeting with Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough regarding local veterans’ issues: “It was an honor meeting with @SecVetAffairs this morning to discuss our Orange County’s Veterans Cemetery. Sec. Collins & I are committed to seeing this through & will keep working around the clock until our veterans get the results & final resting place they deserve.”
On January 8, Kim commented on a recent U.S. law enforcement operation involving Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro: “Maduro was a drug lord, indicted since 2020 with a bounty on his head. The U.S.’s limited & targeted operation was a wildly successful law enforcement action, executed with decisiveness & precision under @POTUS.”
Kim has served in Congress since 2021 after succeeding Gil Cisneros and previously held office in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016 (https://bioguide.congress.gov/search/bio/K000395). Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and currently residing in La Habra, she graduated from the University of Southern California with a BBA in 1985.
