Young Kim, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing artificial intelligence policy, state-level economic deals, and press freedom in Hong Kong.
On December 15, 2025, Kim commented on the Biden administration’s efforts to advance artificial intelligence infrastructure. She wrote: “America can’t afford to fall behind in AI. @POTUS is mobilizing 1,000 engineers to build AI infrastructure, cut through bureaucracy, and bring our federal government into the 21st century. This is what investing in American leadership looks like.”
Later that day, she addressed California Governor Gavin Newsom regarding potential economic opportunities for the state. In her post dated December 15, 2025, Kim asked: “…. @GavinNewsom, any chance we can get these deals in CA?”
On December 16, 2025, Kim turned her attention to developments in Hong Kong following the conviction of pro-democracy activist Jimmy Lai by Chinese authorities. She stated: “The CCP’s conviction of Jimmy Lai exposes the truth about Hong Kong today: Democracy is punished, not protected. Mr. Lai’s only ‘crime’ was defending democracy & a free press. The CCP is using bogus national security laws to silence dissent & jail journalists.”
Kim has served as a member of Congress since replacing Gil Cisneros in 2021 and previously held office in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and now residing in La Habra, she graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1985.
