Young Kim, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district since 2021, has been vocal on social media about various issues. On June 4, 2025, she shared her thoughts on the California high-speed rail project and introduced the BARK Act aimed at addressing pet supply waste.
In a tweet posted on June 4, 2025, Young Kim criticized California’s handling of federal funds for the high-speed rail project. She stated that “California wasted $7 billion in federal taxpayer dollars over the past decade without laying a single train track on the high speed rail.” She expressed approval of Secretary Duffy’s decision to halt further investment in what she termed as a “train to nowhere.”
On the same day, Kim posted another tweet containing only a link https://t.co/UJSmlZU5A9, which lacked additional context or commentary.
Later that day, Kim highlighted issues faced by animal shelters across the United States. In her tweet from June 4, 2025, she pointed out that “many animal shelters face food and supply shortages while over a million pounds of useable pet supplies are wasted each year.” She introduced the BARK Act as a solution to mitigate this waste and support shelters in need.
Young Kim has been serving in Congress since replacing Gil Cisneros in 2021. Prior to her current role, she served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962, Kim resides in La Habra and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Southern California.
