Young Kim, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district, used her Twitter account on May 1, 2026, to criticize proposed legislation by California Democrats and to advocate for stricter penalties for undocumented immigrants convicted of drunk driving.
In a tweet posted at 20:00 UTC, Kim commented on a recent legislative proposal, writing: “California Democrats’ “Stop Nick Shirley Act” is a full-on attack on the First Amendment. Instead of thanking an independent journalist for exposing billions in fraud, they want to criminalize him. Pathetic.”
Later that evening at 20:39 UTC, Kim addressed immigration enforcement and drunk driving, stating: “It’s simple, if you are here illegally and drive drunk you should be deported. I’m leading the Stop Illegal Aliens Drunk Driving Act to help stop preventable tragedies & hold offenders accountable. Thank you @jenniferhorne for highlighting this necessary legislation.”
At 22:00 UTC on the same day, she continued her advocacy with another post: “Illegal aliens who drive under the influence have been granted second, third, & even fourth chances in our country. That’s unacceptable. My Stop Illegal Aliens Drunk Driving Act will fix this senseless loophole & ensure they get deported.”
Kim has served in Congress since 2021 after replacing Gil Cisneros and previously held office in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and currently resides in La Habra. Kim graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1985.
