Young Kim, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district since 2021, posted a series of statements on her Twitter account in early January 2026 addressing state and national issues, including criticism of California Governor Gavin Newsom and comments on U.S. foreign policy.
On January 6, 2026, Kim wrote: “MN is just the tip of the iceberg. From EDD fraud to illegal commercial driver’s licenses, Gavin Newsom has wasted billions in taxpayer dollars & put public safety at risk. I’ve stood up to Newsom every step of the way & am grateful that @POTUS is working to hold him”. In this post, she accused Governor Newsom of mismanaging state resources and praised the President for taking action.
The following day, January 7, Kim commented on U.S. actions against Nicolás Maduro’s regime in Venezuela: “Maduro was a dictator who exported drugs, death, & instability. @POTUS sent a clear message: the U.S. won’t tolerate criminal regimes that flood our borders with drugs & treat American lives with contempt. Decisive, precise, & done in a night.” She characterized Maduro as a dictator and expressed support for recent executive measures taken by the administration.
Later on January 7, Kim marked the anniversary of California’s costliest fire in Los Angeles by stating: “One year ago today, California experienced its costliest fire in Los Angeles. Over 30 individuals lost their lives, more than 200,000 were displaced, & 16,000 structures were destroyed. My heart is with the families who have lost so much, & I will keep fighting in Congress to”.
Young Kim has represented California’s 40th District since defeating Gil Cisneros in 2021 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and now residing in La Habra at age 60, she graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1985.
