Young Kim, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district since 2021, recently addressed several issues concerning California and her work in Congress through a series of posts on her social media account.
On January 9, 2026, Young Kim criticized the leadership of California Governor Gavin Newsom. In her post, she stated: “Gavin Newsom’s reign has brought nothing but failure, destruction, and FRAUD to California. As we mark one year since the LA fires, Californians deserve serious leadership that puts public safety, results, & Californians first. We can—& must—do better.”
The following day, on January 10, 2026, Kim highlighted her support for law enforcement officers and mentioned legislative efforts to recognize their service. She wrote: “Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line each day to keep our communities safe. I’m helping lead a bill to recognize their service & sacrifice & ensure our communities have the backs of those who have always had ours.”
Later that same day, Kim expressed condolences over the passing of Doug LaMalfa: “Remembering my dear friend & colleague Doug LaMalfa—a larger-than-life leader who never lost sight of the small moments that mattered most. We will miss him deeply.”
Young Kim has represented California’s 40th District in Congress since defeating Gil Cisneros in 2021 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and currently residing in La Habra at age 60, she is also an alumna of the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree earned in 1985.
