Young Kim, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 40th district since 2021, posted a series of messages on August 18, 2025, highlighting her work and views on veterans’ care, women’s rights, and breast cancer awareness.
In her first post of the day, Kim addressed the ongoing needs of military veterans. On August 18, she wrote: “Those who have fought for our freedoms should never have to fight for care. I met with local advocates to discuss the challenges our veterans face & my work to expand VA access, improve housing opportunities, & ensure our heroes receive the respect they deserve. “
Later that same day, Kim reflected on the anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. In her post dated August 18, she stated: “The 19th Amendment was ratified #OTD in 1920 to give women the right to vote. I’m humbled to be one of many women serving in Congress & to continue the important fight for women & girls to have seats at the table & our voices heard. “
On Breast Cancer Research Day, Kim also shared a message about cancer awareness and support for ongoing research. Her August 18 tweet read: “Today is Breast Cancer Research Day. One in eight women & one in 833 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. We honor survivors, rally with those battling breast cancer, remember those we’ve lost, & recommit to medical innovation that saves lives. “
Kim has represented California’s 40th District in Congress since replacing Gil Cisneros in 2021 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and currently residing in La Habra, she graduated from the University of Southern California with a BBA in 1985.
